The school is a registered charity (1208967) and operated by Craig Harrison, a former army sniper, and veteran.
Since childhood Craig has had an interest in nature and the environment, his life story and his experience are described in
his bestselling book "The Longest Kill" as well as a number of guest appearances on various podcasts.
Since leaving the army with complex PTSD, Craig has comprehensively studied survival skills and completed a nationally recognised instructors course. Due to his experience throughout his career carrying out 10 tours, Craig has an individual understanding of the challenges faced by people with PTSD.
The course is supported by Ross Hoar, a Gestalt psychotherapist with nearly 40 years of experience in mental health, including work with individuals facing addiction and eating disorders. Ross brings a broad range of skills developed through years of supporting people who have experienced profound trauma.
Together, the team aims to make the Maverick Survival School a place where individuals can reconnect with themselves in an environment that is nurturing, natural, and gently challenging. We fully acknowledge that a day or weekend session cannot "cure" trauma or PTSD, but being immersed in a woodland setting can help bring focus and connection back to everyday life.
The school offers level 2 and level 3 training and classes of up to 6 people. Although Maverick Survival School can offer support to people with trauma and PTSD this is by no means exclusive and we welcome all ages to the school.
